Zoë has been drawing and painting since childhood. As a child she drew characters in outrageous fashions, and immersed herself in classic children’s book illustrations, as well as the art of MC Escher, and her artist mother, Carola Penn.
With an Art degree in painting, she first learned how to create a repeat as a designer for a line of women’s and children’s apparel in NYC. Since then, she has created repeat patterns for apparel, accessories and her own line of home goods.
She uses nature & science, 20th century art, and folkarts as her source material, and researches trends in color and subject inspiration. Throughout the process, she relies on her own style and art background for the finalized pattern.
Zoë is always open to design opportunities, collaborations and freelance work.
